Q: What is custom install?

A: Basically it is having a system designed to suit your needs. A made to measure system that delivers sound or pictures (or both) to anywhere in the house, without having more than one system.

Imagine preparing a meal in the kitchen whilst listening to your favourite radio program or CD, without disturbing your partner - who's listening to their own selection of music the lounge.

Imagine music waking you every day, instead of an annoying alarm clock. When you take a shower; your favourite music issues from discreet, waterproof ceiling speakers. Relax in the bath and catch up on the news or listen to your new CD. The possibilities are endless.

Q: How much equipment will be on show?

A: Very little to almost none at all. Purpose built equipment is centrally located somewhere out of the way, under the stairs, in the loft, cellar or a utility room. The bulk of the  system is never seen, except to load discs or to service the unit. The actual bit that you see and use is more often than not a discreet keypad, like the one on the left.

Sound comes from discreet speakers which might be mounted flush in the ceiling or walls, or even built into cabinetry. Alternatively normal speakers can be used. We can even supple speakers that look like pictures and simply hang on the wall!

As you can see from the image on the left, the keypads are the same size as domestic light fittings and can be chosen to match existing styles, in order to blend in. Ceiling speakers are similarly ideal where the minimum of visual impact is required. These come in a variety of sizes, a range of quality options and can even be painted to fully blend in to the decor of the room. These are speakers specially designed for this use and can bring sound to virtually any environment. Many are even water and weather proof, enabling them to be used in shower areas, swimming pool areas or even outside. Marine application products also mean that they can be fitted on boats.

This image shows Boston Mariner speakers, ideal for large areas and completely water proof. Here we used 3 pairs to fill a very large area for pool parties.Q: Are these systems easy to use?

A: Yes. Each keypad allows you to choose what you want to listen to, be it radio, CD or other sources. You can change track, change the radio station and adjust volume with ease and with independence for each room. That means that people in other rooms can make a different selection or listen at a different volume, or choose not to listen at all.

The system will also accept commands via remote control. In fact once the system is set up and your favorite CD's are loaded into the multi-player, you can forget about it and just enjoy listening to music, wherever you are.

Q: How much to I need to spend on speakers?LINN Discreet, in wall and in ceiling speakers cost £199 per pair.

A: This depends on the type of room and also how good a sound you want. There is little point spending a fortune on speakers in the bathroom or the kitchen because they are harsh environments for sound. The lounge is a different matter. We normally specify better speakers for rooms in which you are likely to sit and actually listen to the system, as opposed to those rooms where music is required as background level or for company. Ceiling speakers start from £125 a pair and go up as far in quality as you could wish.

Imagine every room in the house with easy to access, wonderful sound. A glass of wine whilst reading the Sunday papers on the patio, with gentle music playing in the background. A long soak in the bath accompanied by your favourite CD or radio station. In the morning you are woken by Mozart or Ibiza chill out music as the lights gently fade up.  All of this and much more is achievable with a multi-room system.

Custom Install provides solutions to your own unique set of problems. Moorgate works with a team of installers trained to anticipate your needs and with the skills to implement solutions neatly and discreetly.

Q: What about home cinema?

A: No problem. We can integrate a concealed home entertainment system in your lounge or we can build you a bespoke cinema in a spare room that will compare with the Odeon Leicester Square!

From a plasma mounted in a cabinet via a cunning lift system or a drop down screen and ceiling mounted projection system, we can help. Improvements in speaker technology now also means that ceiling speakers can be used for all of the channels needed to give Digital surround sound. Ease of use; simple: imagine the thrill of your own cinema where everything happens at the touch of one button! Lights dim, everything turns on a the move starts.

Good timing

The best time for the installation of this equipment is during a period of renovation and refurbishment, or when a new house is under construction. Our installers can carry out retro-fits to the same high standards, concealing both hardware and cables, but a pre-wire option will always be much more cost-effective, as it involves less disruption to existing fixtures, fittings and decor. It also takes less installation time.

If this is not possible there are a few systems that use wireless technology. In time more will follow, meaning that good results are possible without needing to conceal so many cables.

Improving the way you live

Multi-room audio systems enable you to enjoy every room in your home. Music, movies, TV and Sky can be with you in any room, providing endless entertainment for the whole family. Investment in a system is an investment in your home and your leisure time. It will also add value to your property when you move, because more and more people are placing these types of systems on their wish lists.

The First Step

If you like the sound of owning a multi-room system, you might be surprised at how relatively affordable a system can be installed for. We'd suggest that the next step is to contact us so that we can visit you at home and discuss your requirements. Doing this will enable us to find what type of system you need. We will then prepare a quotation that will outline costs as well as what the system will actually do. We will find a way to provide you with your dream system with the minimum of visual impact on your home.

Here are some questions that will help us determine what kind of system you require.

  1. How many rooms would you like sound in?

  2. Will radio and CD be sufficient, or would you like a greater choice of sources?

  3. Do you require satellite, DVD or video distributing throughout the house?

  4. Of the rooms you have suggested, which are the ones you are likely to spend the most time?

  5. How much control of the music would you like?

That's pretty much it. Now make contact with us and we can arrange an appointment to come and see you. As we are based in Sheffield we tend to work and service areas within an hour by car. Outside this area we will be happy to offer advice on alternative dealers/installers.
