Newly revised due to alterations 18/01/05
(sorry these keep changing but Sheffield's roads are like whores
drawers)
By Car - Take junction 33 Off the M-1 and follow the signs
for Sheffield city center. In the center
(big roundabout with lights and the super tram
overhead) , head for the Railway Station, passing it on your
left. The road veers to the left and you will see the Brightside Funeral Parlor
on your right - keep to the right. As you approach the staggered
roundabout follow the road round to the right . Now get in the left lane
and head straight on, passing a pub and a
hire center.
Keep straight on until the road
widens to become dual carriageway. Go across one roundabout, through the lights and turn right at the next
roundabout (3rd exit). 100 yards on, turn left at the lights onto Fitzwilliam Street. We are 25
yards along on the left side. There's parking on the street and a massive pay and
display at the top of the road. We are 15 minutes from the M1 in normal traffic.
By Rail - From Sheffield Station, you can get a cab (we are
about a mile away) or take a walk up past the Museum
of Modern Music towards The Moor. At the bottom of The Moor (Moor
Foot), turn right and walk along and under the underpass. When you emerge, you will see
Stokes Tiles in front of you. You are at the foot of Fitzwilliam Street. Walk up the road
a little way and you will see us on the left.
Whilst you are in the Area
If you are making a journey, why not make a day of it?
We are about 5 miles from Meadowhall, Europe's' largest indoor shopping
center and my own personal
vision of hell.
Music fans could time there visit to coincide with their
favorite band playing at one of Sheffield's
many venues. The Hallam FM Arena caters for
larger bands whilst the City Hall and the Leadmill host more specialist musical tastes. In
the summer, the Don Valley Stadium is also on the menu (hosting gigs by The Stones and Bon
Jovi to name but 2). On a more intimate scale try The Boardwalk, host to local
musicians, tribute bands and lot's more, with some of music's biggest
names often dropping in for impromptu performances.
Sheffield is also a great place to base a visit into
Derbyshire from. You can easily drive to Chatsworth House, Bakewell (home of the famous
Tart?), and Castleton (home of Blue John). The Peak district is ten minutes away -
fabulous for walking, hiking or mountain biking and looking at some of the
finest scenery in England.
Eating Out
If you like eating out, you are in for a treat, Sheffield has
a wide variety of restaurants. These are a few of the best:
- East 1 at West One at the top of
Fitzwilliam Street
- Bahn Thai at the foot of London Road
- The Noodle Bar on London Road
- La Scala on Abbeydale Road at Millhouses
- The Ambar on Ecclesall Road
- The Seven Spices at West Bar
- The Mohul at Totley
- Viva Latino, on London Road
There are also hundreds of fantastic bars and
some great clubs (if you go in for that sort of thing). Try Hot Pants under the City Hall for retro 70's heaven
with DJ Dean - one of our customers (although he won't play any Glam
rock).
